Practical guides for a clearer specification. Use these notes to prepare an enquiry or understand the choices VPI will confirm. You can leave any unfamiliar technical field as “Not sure, please advise.”

How to prepare box dimensions Start by identifying whether the measurements describe the product, the inside of an existing box or its outside.
Record length × width × height in the same unit. Include the packed weight carried by one box. Mention required clearance, inserts or partitions. A drawing or existing sample can help confirm tolerances. 02 · Board profile
B, C, BB and BC flute options Flute affects cushioning, board thickness, stacking behaviour and print surface. The deepest or thickest option is not automatically the best.
B flute supports a balanced print surface and cushioning. C flute provides a deeper profile for cushioning and stacking. BB combines two B flute layers in a double wall board. BC combines B and C flute layers for demanding double wall applications. 03 · Paper performance
How GSM and BF work together GSM describes paper weight per square metre. BF relates bursting strength to that paper weight.
A higher GSM means more paper mass, but does not describe every performance characteristic. Customers do not need to select BF independently in the enquiry form. VPI reviews the product load, stacking and handling conditions before confirming the paper combination. State any customer test target or existing specification when one applies. 04 · Development
Samples, drawings and artwork Clear reference material helps reduce interpretation and makes approval easier before bulk production.
Photograph all sides of an existing box or sample. Include a dimensioned drawing when available. Provide approved artwork and colour references for printed cartons. Confirm whether a prototype is required before production. 05 · Enquiry checklist
What to share for a useful quotation A good enquiry does not need to contain every technical detail. Product and delivery information are the most useful starting points.
Product name, dimensions and packed weight Required quantity, delivery city and postal code Handling, stacking and transit conditions Printing, sample or testing requirements when known Need a recommendation?
Share the product first. The VPI team can help confirm the box style, GSM, flute, ply and protective fitments.
